What it is

General dentistry is routine care for your mouth: cleaning (prophylaxis), treating cavities with fillings, checking the gums and offering guidance to prevent problems before they hurt.

It is also where almost every treatment begins: first we look after the health of the mouth, then we think about aesthetics.

Who it is for

  • People who have not seen a dentist in a while and do not know the state of their mouth.
  • People who feel sensitivity or pain when eating or drinking something cold or hot.
  • People who have noticed a cavity, a broken tooth or an old filling coming loose.
  • People who want a check-up to keep everything in order, adults and children.

How it is done

  1. A conversation and a complete exam of the mouth, with photos when they help to explain.
  2. Cleaning to remove plaque and tartar that brushing cannot reach.
  3. If there is a cavity, the affected part is removed and the tooth is restored with tooth-colored composite resin.
  4. Guidance on brushing, flossing and return visits, in a way that fits your daily life.

What to expect

A maintenance visit is usually relaxed. When anesthesia is needed, Dr. Brenda explains beforehand and goes at your pace.

The number of visits depends on what the evaluation finds. You know the plan from the start.

Aftercare

  • Brush after meals and floss every day.
  • Return at the intervals Dr. Brenda recommends for your case.
  • Do not wait for pain to go away on its own: if it comes back, let us know.

Questions

How often should I have a cleaning?

It depends on your case. Many people have one every six months, and Dr. Brenda recommends the right interval for you during the evaluation.

Will the filling match the color of my tooth?

Composite resin, which imitates the color of the tooth, is normally used. During the evaluation you see the options for your case.

Can I come just for a cleaning?

Yes. Even so, it is worth starting with the initial evaluation, so Dr. Brenda can look at your whole mouth.

The information on this page is general. What is right for you is decided after the clinical evaluation, and results vary from person to person.
